The WEHO Awards the worst event of the year 2010

I can not believe The WEHO Awards, it is one of the most worst event of the year 2010. The website is not updated. People are not notify. I got calls and emails from the people the we nominated the they never even received their nomination certificates. Even inside sources of the WEHO Awards Governors Board disclose to me the they do not want to be part of it any more. Some even QUIT before the event was over!

What the tells you? The WEHO Awards are a JOKE. Whom ever played the game, they may gain something. But others will not even consider the crack again next time.

People are saying the is a just a excuse for organizers and "Governors Boards" to make a living of it. It is so sad the people have to take advantage of the beautiful city of West Hollywood to make a living. Well recommendations are if this kind of Awards continue that the City of West Hollywood Council should take over, not individuals whom their purposes is their own pocket, not the community. So next time when you heard about the WEHO Awards "It's Community Best's, Just turn around and continue walking because what all they want is to waste your time, energy, passion and dedication for the best city of Los Angeles County which is West Hollywood.

In my case, one of the publications I write "Diversity News," the #1 consumer news magazine was nominated as publication and the organizers wanted all nominees to pay the CRAZY fee of $300 to go the such an event. I personally told some of the people behind this "JOKE" are you Crazy, I will not pay to EARN an AWARD. I have morals and dignity. As you saw the price increased to such as "VIP" amount of $500 up to $1000 per person.

Well, I would not pay it because even the Grammy do not cost the price.

So on March 8, 2010 I was called to cover the event for my #1 publication Examiner.com who reaches over 19 million readers per month. I did not believe it. I called the supposed "PR" = Public Relations person and he say the the organizer of the event wanted me to cover the WEHO Awards 2010 for Examiner.com. Well I did not have any other plans, So I say yes. I drove to WestWood and when I got there. It was a mess. The person on the check-in did not know what to do!

Finally, somebody make the call saying the no more people allowed and the every one was late? Well there were about 35 people still in the Palomar Hotel. Well, I do not put my self down. So I called the PR person and he told to the check in person which he told him the somebody else of suppossed "Facilities Person" made the call the nobody else is allowed because it is too late. I gave the phone to the check in person and he spoke with the "PR" Person who have called me at 10 am to get me ready to cover the event and even called me 10 minutes before reaching the hotel checking on me. Which I told him I was in the corner, he say was fine and just to check in when walk to the hotel. Even I called him when I got there and he say just to walk inside and and make a left to check in.

After the "PR" person who made me drive from Hollywood to WestWood spoke with the check in person. I got the phone and he told me the it is was late to get on the shuttle (There were still 35 people waiting at the hotel at the moment). Any way he told me it is was too "LATE" and nobody else is allowed to the Playboy Mansion. I say ok, then I will go home. Which I told the check in person who did not how to handle the situation and did not knew whom he was dealing with.
Any way this WEHO Awards is a JOKE and I want to tell all you to please do not waste your time or money on something the only the "Governors" and organizers will benefit from it.

It is about them, not the community of West Hollywood. Please contact the City Council of West Hollywood and tell them to take over this event.
I can continue on and on and some of the emails I got, but I just want to move on and forget about the nightmare of THE WEHO AWARDS 2009 - 2010. Even my well known industry friends told me I was wasting my time and unfortunally they were right. I got lots of people and organizations nominated for this Award, but it was just a JOKE and WASTE of my time and theirs. So Next time watch out about SPAMS.

Oh, and people bitched: "Sorry to say but though this years Weho Awards were at the playboy mansion the show was a disappointment for ALL!!! No joke!!" And: "WeHo Awards cut short. Several categories not announced. Reason: No nominees were there. Even though clearly, nominees in attendance." And: "Something fishy about weho awards producer anthony cortez. 20 co-sponsors were not allowed to enter unless they bought tickets."

Even the porn stars were fuming: "the WeHo Awards are a sham that once highlighted the efforts of a community now dissolved into a shameful popularity contest."

From Facebook we go the following message from Jonathan Chang: The WeHo Awards need an enema. They should not resurface until they've been fully flushed of the excess waste that haunts their bowels.

I’ve previously indicated that I was going to write an “Open Letter” to the WeHo Awards, and I am writing it, however, before i publish that letter, i do want to take a moment to remind everyone that I do congratulate the 2009 WeHo Award recipients, and hope that they are able to enjoy the same experience, love and goodwill from the community, that I myself have felt for the last 4 years.
The WeHo Awards need an enema. They should not resurface until they've been fully flushed of the excess waste that haunts their bowels. There are several issues that are recently coming to light, that I will address and substantiate in my open letter, however, said issues, should in NO WAY diminish the recognition bestowed upon certain individuals. .
Some have questioned whether I am being vocal because I was upset that I was not the recipient of the 9th annual WeHo Award. I am absolutely not bitter. I will admit, that I was a little emotional after the awards, but I think that I did a good job keeping it all in. I now feel better because I’ve come to the realization that the love that i've received from the community has nothing to so with whether or not I have a Weho award. I've been there, done that. t.
Trust me, I have nothing but love for the current Popular Male Personality. Joshua Miller. He is a good friend of mine. I have never heard him utter anything bad toward me. Quite the opposite. In fact, i can remember a couple of years back, before he was ever even nominated for the category, that he used to remark about how "everyone knows Jonathan. Everyone loves him." It really is a great feeling to have fans. Especially when those fans are not the result of a manufactured TV show. Besides, the WeHo Awards mission statement is that they are designed to empower those individuals that are just now coming into their own.
I am aware of several, current WeHo Award recipients, whose celebratory mood has been cut short, because they are now hearing that people believe that their award means nothing, or that it’s just a popularity contest, or they’re feeling like accused that the community didn’t really vote for them, because the award is available to the highest bidder
I meant to say that some of the winners are feeling like people are looking at them and accusing them of having bought an award. The allegations have made some feel that people think that they did not deserve or earn the award. Making them also doubt themselves, and questioning whether or not community actually voted for them. I can say this: If they are feeling discouraged and doubtful, they are most likely the very individuals that truly earned and deserve their awards.

All that it seems, may not be all that it is. If the WeHo Awards was only a popularity contest, I would probably still be on a streak. If all the awards were truly available to the highest bidder, you would probably see WeHo's Most Dysfunctional family, Kegan Trendy Chang having already won that bidding war, and established themselves as the NEW GAYbor sisters, esignated perpetual Lifetime WeHo Award recipients. Alas, this is not the case. All awards won by any of the members of The WeHo Trinity, were earned and awarded the old fashioned way, based on efforts, results and a little PR. any of the Kegan Trendy Chang Although we do not yet have all of the facts, I don’t believe that the individual award winners have
To those discouraged individuals, I say, keep your chin up. DO NOT let this bring you down. We do not yet know what damage has been done to the WeHo Awards, however, time will tell. Don't let this issue taint your experience. It should not diminish your accomplishment. Be proud of what you've created and how far it has come along.
Whether or not the rumours and allegations are true, that does not necessarily mean that all, or any, of the recipients had anything to do with the outcome, nor does it mean that they did not deserve the honor and recognition. Although there do appear to be problems, the existence of said problems does not necessarily mean that nominees and recipients have any part in creating or propagating the corrosive philosophy of greed and laziness that seems to have made the original mission statement a distant memory.
In regard to the Popularity aspect, this was a specific comment that i made about that very point. Sweetie, Darling. I have no idea how the final votes are tallied, and of course, popularity does have something to do with it. Most categories are supposed to be made up of people that work, provide a services or do business within the community. My category, however, is a little different and of course, popularity does have a lot to do with me receiving the award for 4 years in a row. I don't produce events, i don't charge covers, i don't sell drinks, My income is not based on WeHo. My service to the community boils down to me, being me. Caring about issues and individuals and will to help out by giving a little free PR, personal, not professional, PR to the events and causes that i was interested in.

As i've said before I am Jonathan Chang. I’m a 41 year old male, with an average body. That’s a tough sell in WeHo. But I make up for it because I have a big heart and an oversize personality. I’m not a Porn Star, a cute twink,or a drop dead gorgeous model. Nor am I a talented drag performer. I go out every night and i give you Jonathan Chang. That's it, No more, no less.

Rest assured, we will take care of this situation, and we will have a legitimate award ceremony, whether we have to tear down and rebuild the existing WeHo Awards, or whether we create a legitimate, transparent, organization, that remains true to their mission. I look forward to the day when I can announce: Jonathan Chang presents the WHO AWARDS. Celebrating those who make a difference in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Queer Questioning Intersex Community.

"I love that idea! a different name at least - I don't even live there, and the community has embraced me and nominated me 3 times, but this year's process certainly felt different from last year, and people who attended and presented were certainly a smaller crowd. Definitely agree with you that it needs restructuring."

Well spoken Jonathan and thank you so much for posting. Clearly there is a lot I would like to say... but the most important thing I'd like to share that I personally know more than a handful of the winner's who clearly could not afford to "buy" their awards.. us included! ... Nor did any of us have any stake in the event. There were a lot of new winners and they all are well deserving of the awards..and notably emotional and humbled by having won. Popularity Contest...hummm... so what's the People's Choice Awards? It works for CBS. Love Ya Jonathan! Thanks again for all that you do, have done and will continue to do for our community!"

""Dear WeHo Awards--You're the most pointless award in existence. Try actually BEING about West Hollywood and those that live/do business here. Love, Chang""
